LOW-COST RENEWABLE ENERGY DRIVEN (LC-RED)
WATER TREATMENT SOLUTIONS CENTRE
WP-2: G B PANT UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (GBPUAT), PANTNAGAR
Main objective:
To develop a demonstration model for remediation of wastewater through stabilization pond based floating raft and evaluation of immobilized bacterial cells for enhancing its efficiency.
To assess dendro-remediation potential for polishing and reuse of wastewater by bioenergy plantation and to subtle operational criteria for zero discharge.
To investigate the nutrient/ pollutant uptake and removal dynamics in natural treatment system, estimation of carbon sequestration and biomass production of bio-energy trees under fertigation and evaluation of economic attributes.
To determine pollutant contamination fate and exposure pathway in developed model.

Methodology:
Demonstration of on-site experiment model in 1 hectare land for remediation of domestic wastewater by natural system of stabilization pond combined with floating raft immobilized bacterial cells and dendro-remediation.
Polishing of treated wastewater for reuse through fertigation for zero discharge and energy plantation biomass growth by dendro-remediation system.
Sampling and analysis of water, soil and microbial parameters on monthly/ seasonal basis for determining pollutant loading and its removal efficiency.
Leachate study for soil and ground water contamination and risk assessment.
Estimation of energy trees biomass growth, carbon stock calculation in soil and plant for carbon sequestration.
Design suitable and efficient natural treatment system for domestic wastewater reclamation and reuse.

Deliverables:
Reclamation & re-use of wastewater, develop guidelines for design & standardization of natural treatment system for water security & Environmental protection.
Bioenergy plantation for biomass, enhanced carbon sequestration and better economic attributes for benefits of the society.
Proposed study would be a complimentary effort for the Namami Gange, Clean India and Tree credit campaign launched by Govt. of India & can be used by Govt./ NGOs / Industries/ Municipal bodies/ Researchers for water resource management.
